Another collaboration this time with the trumpet player Matt Postle. As Rudnicki & Postle Electric Duo we are exploring live improvisation with trumpet and electronics.

Since Matt is researching restrictions in jazz improvisation the idea from the start of the project was to use loop based material and gradually build up the tracks. We have made few exceptions though and also updated our setup of VCS3 and then Thingamagoop2.

RPE Duo presents multimedia live act. Ever-changing visuals evolve throughout the performance from clear image to abstract art similar to music produced by musicians who interact with each other and the visualizations that are generated during the show. This interaction translates into a unique art form. Music expresses communication between trumpet and live electronics and exposes how limited material can be entertaining and evolving. Electronic grooves are combining hip-hop with techno, dub in experimental manner. Trumpet is giving acoustic vibe to the performance. Improvisations slowly evolve in time into dense noise or fragmented pieces. None of the material is scored however each electronic sound is carefully crafted.

Radek is using Elektron Machinedrum and Monomachine and processing Matt with analogue effect (Jomox T-Resonator) and mixing everything in Ableton Live. Matt is improvising with trumpet and interacting with the effects and rhythmswhile being live sampled. Visualizations are made of the live feed from the camera that is located on stage, with the usage of GLSL shaders (Technicolor emulation, blurs, mirroring effects, etc.) applied to the clear image not only show the audience what is happening on stage but also perfectly complement aesthetics of the music.

RPE Duo set is approximately 45min long and contains interludes with Thingamagoop2 and T-Resontor or Sherman Filterbank dependent on the venue. (We use Sherman in churches and big halls, T-Res is used for sapaces with transparent acoustics or less reverbrant ones)

We have performed at Dialogues Festival 2010 in Edinburgh and Manchester Jazz Festival 2010 among others.
