Dance-Text-Origin
I worked on that piece with Marie from scratch. I was composing music bearing in mind general arrangements we decided beforehand. Marie was responsible for creating choreography based on that. Then I was tweaking the song to make it work with dance and fit the timings. We met every week to discuss the project so I could see the progress of the choreography. Making small video clips helped me to design the sounds and phrases. I was sending mp3's with new versions of the song so that Marie could rehearse it with dancers. It was really interesting process to create arrangement based on the idea and movement rather than colors or shapes I was concentrating on in previous compositions.
I recorded dancers from NSCD speaking in French, English and Marie speaking Norwegian was asked to describe differences between languages, cultures and difficulties of living in foreign country as well as impact of the origin on the people’s life. At least that was the theme for the piece that was represented in dance too.

I had lot’s of nice sounds I could play with after that. I chose the most interesting ones, however there might be not much sense in the sentences for people speaking languages mentioned above.
I processed them with Reaktor, T-Resonator (my recent favourite processing tool). The opening whale type of alien sound is the Virus TI, Machinedrum provided me with electronic percussive sounds. EMS VCS3 made nice noises for a contrast to the hang drum that was used throughout the piece. I also recorded my mate Enrico playing massive gamelan gongs. I couldn’t resist and used the samples, you can hear them towards the end.
