A Dream Play
Originally the piece was made for modernist Theatre of dreams: A Dream Play written by Strindberg, directed by Cecily Boyes. Music is based on improvisation Simon Roth (drums), Jo Murgatroyd (sax, clarinet) which I recorded with Jon Hughes.
Jon came up with the rough mix and start of the piece I then rearranged that and mixed it with electronics (Monomachine and Reaktor - voice processing). Project was successfully completed within a very short period of time due to the tight deadline. I then final mixed the track and did the mastering.
According to the director:
The main emphasis for the music's inspiration is a tension between or a pull between duty and freedom, doubt vs certainty, instinct vs learned behavior, purity vs dirt...
We used that as a main guide and inspiration. Collided free jazz, Beethoven's strings with Indian vibe and digital electronics.
Please find the new reworked piece Playing Dreams which I finished in summer 2009, it includes Matt Postle's trumpet improvisation.
The original is in here.
